Media Capacity Building Project Documentation of Practice

The Program Training and Consultation Centre launched its Media Capacity Project (MCP) in 2016, to support public health units in the development of community-based media and communications initiatives to promote quit attempts among adult smokers. The project’s aim was to feature personal testimonials from former smokers about the negative health consequences of smoking, which have been shown to be effective in increasing quit attempts and cessation rates. This documentation of practice highlights key campaign processes and components around the development and dissemination of their innovative media capacity projects, aimed to reach and motivate individuals to make quit attempts by using compelling and hard-hitting testimonials from within their own communities. The individual case reports provide detailed descriptions of the approaches taken in each case.
