Prerequisites:
There are no prerequisites for this workshop, however we strongly suggest that you complete the "Cessation" Module of the OTRU web-based course "Tobacco & Public Health: From Theory to Practice" prior to the workshop. This free online course takes 2-4 hours to complete and can be accessed at:

Participants attending this workshop will learn how to counsel, encourage and support smokers who want to quit and stay smoke-free. We will:
* Describe and practice one-on-one counselling techniques for smoking cessation, emphasizing the four "A's" -- Ask, Advise, Assist, Arrange.
* Practice counselling scenarios with clients at various stages of readiness to quit.
* Review a Toolkit of various assessment and treatment tools that can help you and your clients develop a treatment plan, assess levels of addiction, and build motivation to quit.
